Benefits Fraud More Widespread Than Previously Thought

Benefits fraud takes place when a plan member submits a claim for goods or services that has not been legitimately provided. With the advent and more widespread use of photo claims, it has been made easier to attempt and at the same time more easy to detect. Employers should protect themselves by knowing how to recognize benefits fraud and by communicating to employees/members and their families that termination and potentially prosecution could take place if the carrier finds that fraud has taken place.
